Website Security Risk
Google Security Alert

I'm sorry to say that I was contacted today by Google to say that this website had been compromised. Anyone visiting the site from Google will have been presented with a warning an example of which can be seen by visiting this site:

http://www.google.com/interstitial?url=http://www.theellisfund.co.uk/&hl=en

A more detailed description of the security issues can be found here:

http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=http://www.theellisfund.co.uk/

I won't convey my feelings about the people that deface websites or that infect computers with malware; genuine visitors no doubt feel the same as I do and those that are guilty of such actions I'm certain have no conscience.

Let me assure you that I have restored the site from a clean backup and have requested that Google review the website again to ensure that no further risks exist. I would strongly recommend that any visitors over the previous week, that do not have current anti-virus subscriptions, visit this website for a free on-line scan to ensure that you are not infected with any malware:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Please note that I'm not affiliated with Trend Micro in anyway, although I have used their anti-virus software in the past, and receive nothing from them should you decide to use that facility.

I have temporarily removed the content management pages from the website and I'll be thoroughly reviewing the website to change the way it functions in order to prevent a recurence of this in the future. I can only apologise again, I'm not a web developer and have put this site together the best that I can in order to raise awareness of birthmarks, the possible treatments available, and to raise funds to cover the cost of Ellis' surgery.

On a happier note we will be updating the website soon with more details of the charity night taking place on Friday 12th September 2008 at Marstons Stadium (Hinckley United Football Club).

UPDATE: Status of the latest badware review for this site: A review for this site has finished. The site was found clean. The badware warnings from web search are being removed. Please note that it can take some time for this change to propagate.
