It has been far too long since our last update although there are a few reasons for that, the first of which was both Ellis, followed closely by Tyler, came down with Chicken Pox which we are happy to say they have both recovered from.
We have also been investigating the opportunity of becoming a registered charity which would have given us the benefit of tax free donations and also given us credibility and accountability when raising funds. Unfortunately due to some new legislation we are not able to qualify as our fund raising is for an individual and not for ‘public benefit’.
We had some really fantastic news which came about through our eBay auctions when we were contacted by one of our winning bidders about the possibility of a fund raising concert. Joanne Steel created "Feverish", a tribute to Kylie Minogue in January 2002, and has already performed in aid of charities and she has kindly offered to donate some of the proceeds from her next event to The Ellis Fund. This will be held on 12th September 2008. We will add more details when we have them, which will include details of the venue and how to purchase tickets. In the meantime we have added a link to Joanne's website under our sponsors section on the left.
Ellis continues to do really well and has now fully recovered from the 4th surgery which has been a complete success. Everyone comments on how amazing he looks and Ellis is more than happy to show them how he can now close his eye. This only helps to reassure us that we did the right thing for our son and hopefully through the ongoing fundraising we can clear much of the debt that we have accumulated, ensuring Ellis received the best possible advanced treatment which sadly could not be obtained through the NHS.
The montage of pictures to the right hopefully illustrates how successful the surgeries have been and also demonstrates the journey that our son has endured. We will continue to update the website with pictures and details of our fundraising.
We are continuing to raise funds through eBay auctions – we still have a spare room that is full of many many items to be listed and we are thankful for the generosity of many individuals. An especially huge thank you goes to Mr M Prior who has kindly donated a large amount of beautiful furniture soon to appear on eBay.
Though Ellis faces just one or 2 more procedures, the funds currently raised are being used to pay off the surgery bills from previous operations and as mentioned earlier, clear debts that have accumulated through borrowing.
Please feel free to contact us using the contact form with your questions or comments.
