After an early start on Friday 14th December, involving a very sleepy Ellis eating his breakfast at 6:30am (he couldn't eat after 7:30am), we set off for Liverpool Childrens Hospital (Alder Hey) and arrived around 11am.
The staff were fantastic and really put Ellis at ease while applying the numbing cream to his hands, giving him his sleepy medicine, and then leaving him to relax watching Thomas The Tank Engine videos. Mr Liew examined Ellis, who again was perfectly happy having his skin pulled around, and took the time to explained that it was a very simple and quick process to remove the stitches with nothing else to do given how well it had healed.
Finally at around 2pm it was time for Ellis to go down to the operating room and this time Debbie was allowed to stay with him until he had fallen asleep from the gas. We then went outside to let relatives know he was under and then to the shop to get some treats for when he woke up. When we returned to the ward about 30 minutes later it was time to go and collect him so it really had taken no time at all. After Ellis had drunk some water he was able to eat which he was very happy to do just as he was in Berlin. When they were happy that Ellis was fit and well we were able to leave and so set off home around 6pm.
Ellis has healed so well this time and Dr Fay and Dr Waner have done an amazing job. There is no longer the droop below the right eye and they have removed so much of the area that healed badly the previous times. The extra area of eyelid is quite obvious which is what they intend to remove next time along with correcting his nose, lips and right ear.
Thanks again to everyone that has made a donation as it makes a real difference in the continuing treatment that Ellis needs following on from the agressive surgery to save his eyesight.
