Tuesday 4th December
We arrived at the hospital for 7am and went straight to the ward that will be home for the next 2 days. They applied cream to both his hands, to numb them ready for the canulas, gave him some sleepy juice and then he was wheeled down to surgery. Ellis became very sleepy and was quite funny slurring his words with dozy eyes.
Then it was time to say goodbye as they wheeled him into surgery. We went off to get a coffee and do what we could to take our minds off Ellis (Tyler, Ellis' 11 month old brother, was a good distraction). Finally Ellis was out of surgery after 3 1/2 hours which went really well although they have had to leave upper eye-lid until next time. I should add that the bandage around his head is to keep the drain out of his eyes.
Debbie went off to see him in recovery and an hour later he was back on the ward looking black from the laser treatment and with a drain coming out above the eye where they had relocated some tissue. Ellis was amazing and just wanted to eat! He was in bright spirits and later in the afternoon up and about on his feet.
Dr Fay had flown back to America but Dr Waner (who has more surgery scheduled this week) and Dr Kandilakis came to see us and were really pleased with how Ellis was recovering and how well the surgery had gone. Ellis and I spent the night in hospital and it was a very quiet which is testament to how amazing Ellis has been through all this.
Wednesday 5th December
After a quiet night Ellis insisted he was in no pain so we just gave him his antibiotics, these taste horrible, and some ibuprofen during the day. A really quiet day just playing and entertaining Ellis who is really homesick and desperate to get out of hospital. Canula removed early morning which is great progress.
Dr Waner and Dr Kandilakis visited a number of times during the day and are really pleased both with Ellis' recovery and the outcome of the surgery. Settled down for another quiet night and Ellis was asleep by half eight.
